Some cuts are curves, and for those you need gouges. This MHG set brings the same modern German forging behind their chisels, made in Thuringen where toolmaking runs generations deep, to the traditional firmer gouge pattern. The alloy steel blades are hardened to 61 HRC (plus or minus 1) through the whole working length, so the last inch of steel sharpens up as hard as the first.
Firmer gouges handle coves, hollows, and curved paring with the toughness for mallet work, extending your kit past the straight-edge world. MHG's newer forging technique gives the blades a combination of toughness and elasticity that keeps them from chipping under a hard cut, with performance on par with hand-forged tools.
