This is the largest saw in Z-Saw's Universal series: a 300 mm single-edged Japanese kataba built for demanding general-purpose work. The kataba pattern has no back spine, so it cuts to any depth, and the universal tooth pattern handles rip, crosscut, and angled cuts in framing lumber without swapping saws. It is the saw we put in our Weekender Kit.
Like all Japanese saws it cuts on the pull stroke, which keeps the 0.6 mm blade tracking straight with less effort, and the teeth are impulse hardened so they stay sharp for years. The traditional rattan-wrapped handle grips well with sweaty hands. When the blade finally wears, snap in a No. 15012 replacement and keep working; the blade is sold here on its own.
