This little plane is sturdy and well-constructed. It is our replacement for the venerable Record block planes, now out of production. The Soba comes with heavy cast body and a beefy plane iron that holds up well. All the finer adjustments we were accustomed to with the Record, at an even better price! Made in India.

The block plane is an exceedingly handy little tool that makes up for many small imperfections that appear when working with wood. The "standard" angle of 20° is low enough to cut across end grain in green wood. For dry, hard wood end grain, you may need a "low angle" block plane, usually around 12°. At either angle, the block plane will quickly find a special, very handy, spot in your pocket, toolbag, or bucket.
