About Shelter Tools

For Three Generations

Shelter has been sharing our knowledge and love of tools in midcoast Maine since 1979. If it's in our tool shack, it's superior quality and don't crack! With capable hands and proper care it will last you a lifetime. These tools, toys and supplies are in constant use by our students, timber framing crews, and family. At Shelter Tools, we have a working knowledge of every product we sell, and you can even shop our team members' favorite tools. Graduates will find particular items recommended in class and on site.

A large brick building on a street corner with tall windows and green awnings reading “SHELBURNE INSTITUTE” and “SALT GRANERY,” home to shelter tools and timber framing tools. Several parked cars and a streetlamp are visible in front.
Books are neatly arranged on wooden shelves in a bookstore or library. Most books are standing upright, showcasing colorful covers and spines, with titles about architecture, home building, and timber framing tools visible.
A gray building with a green roof features a sign for Shelter Institute, known for shelter tools and timber framing tools. Three colorful chairs sit on a deck in front, with plants and bushes in the foreground.
A variety of kitchen tools, including knives, scissors, peelers, a citrus squeezer, and cutting boards—reminiscent of shelter tools—are arranged neatly on a dark surface. The utensils have colorful handles and metallic blades.
