The adze has a wide range of applications. It can be used to square off logs and planks to create a smooth surface, to shape beams and purlins, and to form ribs for boats. The Small Straight Adze is usually kept for when the user is working close to the log, making a small axe with a shorter handle preferable. The axe is delivered with a sheath.
The Gränsfors Small Straight Adze is an old Scandinavian axe design with a transverse edge. It is perhaps best described as ‘a chisel you can chop with’.
The axe has an 80 mm wide cutting edge.
