The azebiki solves a problem most saws cannot touch: starting a cut in the middle of a panel, nowhere near an edge. Its short, curved-nosed blade rocks into the surface to begin the kerf, then its dual edges take over, crosscut teeth on one side and rip on the other.
At 17 in overall with a 3-1/2-in blade, it works in confined spaces where a full saw will not swing, cutting grooves, openings, and inlets with Japanese pull-stroke control.
