A Compass Plane has a convex shaped sole and is used to plane concave surfaces, such as the inside of barrels and coopered doors, chair seats and large bowls or basins. The razor sharp iron is a hand-forged lamination of wrought iron and Shirogami Hagane (high carbon white steel). The iron is carefully fitted by hand. Each blade is individually tempered to Rockwell c65ø to ensure a long lasting edge. The body of this is made from Japanese White Oak -- notorious for its strength.
