The citrus solvent carries the oil deep into the fibers, then evaporates and leaves the tung oil to cure. Three to five coats build a water-repellent finish that is food-contact safe, which makes it our pick for butcher block counters and cutting boards. It develops water resistance in a week to ten days and fully cures in about 30 days, and the workshop smells like oranges instead of petroleum.
