The Makita 7104L Chain Mortiser was the first chain mortiser we bought for our shop, and with good maintenance the original is still in use. That is the whole review. It notches or bores through-holes in thick stock quickly, cleanly, and accurately, turning the slowest part of joinery into minutes of work.
The 10.5 AMP motor spins the chain at 3,200 RPM with a chain speed of 1,000 ft/min, and the chain is engineered for clean, accurate cutting. The adjustable vise clamps firmly onto timbers from 3-1/8 in to 12-1/8 in thick, plunge depth adjusts in 1/8-in increments, and a cutting line indicator keeps you on your layout. At 38.1 lbs with a built-in carrying handle, it moves from timber to timber without a fight.
