The Rakunandesu shears use the anvil design: a single sharpened blade closing onto a flat anvil face, which concentrates force and excels on dry, dead, and woody stems where bypass pruners twist and bind. Made in Japan, and built to be maintained rather than thrown away.

Buy the shears, and when the edge finally wears, a set of upper and lower replacement blades or just the lower blade puts them back in service.
