The 28.5 degree skew angle puts a long point on the blade that reaches into corners and undercuts where a square-edged chisel cannot go, and the backs are precision-ground flat so the cut stays straight.

A skew slices rather than chops, shearing cleanly across grain in dovetails, housed joints, and anywhere a joint needs its last few thousandths cleaned out. At 15-1/4 in overall with an 8-in blade there is reach and leverage to spare, and the large tang is seated deep in the handle for years of mallet work.
