This Japanese crack weeder goes where most garden tools can’t: the narrow joints between pavers, brick and flagstone. The thin stainless blade turns 90 degrees off the shank and tapers to a point, so it drops into a joint and drags along it. The serrated inner edge catches grass, moss and roots as you pull back, and the pointed tip picks out whatever the teeth miss.

It’s made in Miki, Japan’s historic toolmaking city, under the Isojiro name. Stainless steel stands up to wet soil and moss, and the lacquered wood handle has a hang hole so it can live on a hook by the door. Better than a butter knife, and made for the job.

  • Blade: stainless steel, L-shaped hook, serrated inner edge
  • Handle: lacquered wood with hang hole
  • Overall length: 14 in; 4-1/2-in blade
  • Made in: Miki, Japan by Isojiro
