The classic Stanley No. 62 Sweetheart Low Angle Jack Plane is made with an extra-thick 3/16-in (4.75 mm) A2 steel iron for excellent edge retention, dressed with a cherry wood handle and knob. A Norris-type adjuster controls depth and lateral set in one motion, and the adjustable throat plate closes up for fine shavings in difficult grain or opens for heavier stock removal.

The low-angle jack is one of the most versatile plane patterns ever made: long enough to joint short edges, low enough in bed angle to shoot end grain, and quick to reset. When the iron wears, Stanley's replacement blade 12-142 drops straight in.
