For quick, accurate dovetail marking, a saddle marker is the best tool available: these Veritas markers are precision machined at 1:6 and 1:8, the traditional angles for softwood and hardwood, wrapping the board edge so both faces mark in one stroke. Four markers: 1:6 for softwood, 1:8 for hardwood, 14 degrees for thin stock, and the plain saddle square for square lines around a corner.
